Catering

A recipe for success

Catering at the Stephenson Trust Post 16 Centre is designed to prepare young people for life after year 11 and how to eat nutritiously while enjoying the cuisine of dishes from around the world.  Students gain an appreciation of both traditional English dishes as well as many from different cultures.  All students have the opportunity to partake in catering lessons weekly to gain skills for life and if they have not achieved their BTEC Home Cooking qualification they can work towards this Level 2 Qualification.

Catering not only offers students the chance to make nutritious and new dishes they can then make at home but teaches students about communication, budgeting, recipe reading, measuring ingredients and a wide range of cooking skills.  We have a fully equipped catering room to allow students access to state of the art appliances so they can create dishes from all different nationalities recognising that food has both a physical and emotional role in people’s lives.

Our main aim is for all students to leave Post 16 with the skills needed to keep themselves healthy through being able to prepare nutritious foods for themselves and for their family.  We aim for all students to complete their Level 1 in Food & Hygiene and progression from catering leads onto college courses in the food industry or apprenticeships in this field.
